Timothy S. Spurlock
May 31,1949 - July 26, 2023
Timothy Shayne Spurlock (Tim) age 74, passed away on July 26, 2023 at Hospice of Cincinnati surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Born to Clyde and Virginia Spurlock on May 31, 1949 in Kenton County, Kentucky. He was a 1967 graduate of Norwood High School.
Tim joined the Cincinnati Police Division as a Police Cadet on July 23, 1967. While working as a cadet he attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated with an Associates Degree in Political Science. He was promoted to Patrolman on January 3, 1971 and then to Police Specialist on May 11, 1982.
During his 30.5 year career he enjoyed many assignments to include Narcotics Section, Intelligence Section, Criminal Investigations Section, and Districts 1 and 7. He was assigned to regional task forces with RENU and the FBI. He received 46 letters of appreciation/commendations from Chiefs, Commanders to include the FBI Director. He retired January 3, 1998 and remained an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #69.
After leaving the Cincinnati Police Department, Tim began a second career at Fifth Third Bank. He retired in January 2023 as a Vice President Senior Investigator on the Corporate Security Team. Receiving many accolades for his dedication to teamwork, collaboration and accountability.
Tim loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed telling stories and was known for his quick witted jokes and “Tim-isms”. He loved attending his children’s sporting events and vacationing with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to good music, especially John Prine. He loved cooking and made the city’s best carbonara (according to his children).
He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Virginia Spurlock, brother Tom and sister-in-law Agnes (Roberts) Spurlock, father-in-law Donald J. Rickett, brother-in-law Donald E. Rickett and niece Sherry Spurlock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Sue (Rickett) Spurlock, children: Andrew (Tabitha) Spurlock, Michael Schuerman, Nicholas (Heather) Schuerman, Kathryn (Jake) Abrams and Kevin (Emily) Spurlock. He was the beloved Pop-Pop to Liam, Rush, Clyde and Emmy.
Dear son in law of Joan Rickett, brother-in-law of Linda Rickett, Diane (John) Roebel, Kevin (Jamie) Rickett, Gary (Melony) Rickett, Lynn (Dan) Mohl, and Karen (Dave) Litzinger.
Cherished by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, friends from Norwood, co-workers from Fifth Third Bank and fellow brothers and sisters of law enforcement.
Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, August 3, 2023 with FOP services at 7:45 pm
