Russell J Brogan

Russ passed away on January 23rd at the age of 77. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Susan. Survived by children Colleen (Brian) Roth; Michael (Shannon); Jeff (Katie); Sean (Allyson); and Erin (Joe) Lind. Russ was the proud grandpa of 12: Abby, Natalie, Jacob, Ryan, Joey, Drew, Ellie, Chase, Bennett, Miles, Laney, and Harper. Russ’ family included brothers Dan - deceased (Joan) Skip (Linda); Tim (Judy); Pat (Rita); Seamus; Dave (Helen); sister Peggy (Larry - deceased); in-laws Mark and Dianne Mercurio; Jerry and Delphi Mercurio; and 31 nieces and nephews. Also preceded in death by his special angel grandson Chase and parents Lucy and Paul ‘Mickey”.  Russ was the ultimate family man, a great friend to many and community leader. He grew up in a large Irish family where they learned the importance of supporting family, working hard, and having fun. He was the backbone of his family, supporting his wife, children, and grandchildren in countless ways.  He worked hard to put his children through Catholic School and was often seen supporting them on the sidelines.   He was beyond proud of them, and they meant the world to him. Russ cherished spending time with his family and friends.   He helped create countless family traditions, from the St Patrick’s Day celebration to the Brogan Family Christmas. He was a fair and honest businessman opening and building Brogan Oil, a car repair shop that he owned for 50 years.  Customers would come from all over the Cincinnati area to his shop in Price Hill to get their car serviced, because they could trust him. Russ was dedicated and loyal toward his faith and community.  He was an active member of St Teresa parish since birth, served as an Army Reservist and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club.   He was dedicated and loyal to Price Hill, living and working in the neighborhood his entire life. Russ was a big supporter of Elder High School.  After graduating in 1965 he became a member of the alumni board, serving for 58 years.  He helped to build and grow the school’s Sports Stag, an annual fundraiser benefiting the school.  Russ would often be seen with his wife Sue at Elder Football, Basketball and Soccer games, cheering on the Panthers. Sports was also a passion of his.  Russ was a Reds season ticket holder for 50 years, a Bengals season ticket holder for 30 years and could be found on softball fields playing and coaching in his younger years. Russ had a life well lived – he put his family first, was a great friend to many, a successful businessman and had a positive impact on his community. Visitation will be held on Sun. January 28th from 1p until 5p at Elder High School’s Schaeper Center, 4005 Glenway Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45205. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Mon. January 29th at St. Teresa of Avila at 11am, followed by a graveside service at St Joseph’s New Cemetery 4500 Foley Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45238. The family invites friends and family to celebrate Russ’ life starting at 1230p at the Western Hills Country Club.   Memorial Donations may be made to Elder High School,  www.elderhs.org/giving or Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute, www.cincinnatichildrens.org/donate
