Loving wife of the late Emil J. Niehe. Beloved Mother of Richard (Carol) Niehe, Mark (Kim) Niehe, Kathleen (Joachim) Fischesser. Cherished Grandmother of Tara Fisher, Cheryl (Brett) Cannon, Michelle (Andy) Casto, Kristine (Cris) Agenter, Jeremy (Stephanie) Niehe, Hannah (Kyle) Dupler, Lydia (Phillip) Smock, and Bradley Niehe. Dear Great Grandmother (GiGi) of Zack and Katy Fisher, Maggie, Paige and Jack Cannon, Emma Sperber and Mattie and Charlie Casto, Emersyn, Kyler and Parker Niehe, and Declan Dupler.
Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 16, 2026 at the age of 97. Mom was a loving daughter, grandaughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin and friend to all. I do not believe she ever met a stranger that did not become her friend.
Mom's childhood and youth was spent growing up on Clay St. in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, attending Old St. Marys Elementary School, graduating from St. Xavier High School in 1945, then working at the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. where she met our Dad. She and Dad married at Old St. Mary's Church on June 27, 1953. After a couple of apartments, Mom and Dad purchased their house on Muddy Creek Rd in 1960, making it our home for the last 66 years.
Mom was deeply religious, truly living her Catholic faith in all she did.
Mom was a loving gift from God to her family and friends. She was always there for whom ever needed her for whatever reason. She was a confidant who could be trusted to take your secret to her grave, so we all knew we could talk to her about anything and it would stay with just her. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and loved sharing stories and laughing with family and friends; and lets not forget her excitement for bingo, scratch offs and casino trips, and last loved travelling the world with Dad and her kids and grandkids.
Loving, caring, considerate, compassionate, supportive are just a few words that describe her. Of course there are so many more adjectives that can describe her and I'm sure everyone that knew her can think of words or things that made Mom special to them.
What makes me smile is envisioning the reunion Mom had in Heaven. Running to my Dad's open arms for that long awaited 19 year embrace! Then hugs and kisses from her parents (especially from her Mother that passed away when Mom was only 4 years old), her Brother who also passed away when Mom was 4 years old, then her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and Dad's family, all who were a major part of Mom's life and last but not least her (too many to count) friends that she made over all the years.
Mom had a unique way, especially with her grandchildren of making each and every one of them feel they were the most special to her. She made us all feel loved and we all knew it, every minute of every day. She was so pround of all of us, her family!
As a closing sentiment, growing up Mom told us that in her heart there was a room she kept for each one of us with our name on the door. No one else could enter. Now that Mom is gone she gave each of us that piece of her heart to replace the hole we have in ours from her passing. So we always have a piece of Mom with us wherever we go.
Mom spent her last year under the care of Bayley Senior Care and Hospice of Cincinnati Care. The staff there was tremendous in the care and friendship they provided to Mom. Hospice of Cincinnati staff was beyond compare.
