After high school, Ray was accepted into the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Upon graduating, he served proudly in the U.S. Navy for nine years, which included a tour in Vietnam as a Fighter Pilot and later as an instructor at Test Pilot school before retiring in 1970. His time in the Navy was marked by dedication, discipline, and leadership.
Following his military service, Ray continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning an MBA. He then embarked on a distinguished 26-year career with Procter & Gamble, ultimately retiring as Director of Logistics— a role that reflected his strategic mind and steady leadership.
Ray was a devoted husband to Pattie Herzog and a loving father to David Prudhomme (deceased), Robin Burns, Buck Herzog (Karen), and Katie Galbraith (Giles). He was a proud grandfather to Billy Burns, Jack Herzog, Ashley Galbraith, and Sydney Galbraith. Ray is also survived by his sisters, Trudy Schulte, Vonnie Fry, and Joyce Miller. Whether mentoring colleagues, spending time with family, or enjoying a round of golf or tennis, Ray brought a calm strength and sincerity to every interaction. His life was marked by quiet leadership, a deep sense of duty, and unwavering love for his family.
