Marcia Gloe Merryman passed away quietly on May 28,2025, after a long battle with dementia. Marcia was born Marcia Gloe Taylor on February 17, 1936, to Edith and Everett (Doc) Taylor in Upland, Indiana. Marcia was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and a proud graduate of Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in 1960. Marcia is preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Edith Taylor; her husband, John (Jack) Ezra Merryman II MD; and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Deitrich Merryman. Marcia leaves behind 4 children: John(Kathy), Chuck(Jennifer,(D)), Bob(Tanya), and Cherri(Chris)Seeton. She was the proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Rowan, Taylor Seeton, Samantha Seeton, Ramsay, Charlotte, and Amelia. Marcia is also survived by her loving sister, Lillian Purdom.
Marcia continued her education at Duke University, where she earned a degree as a registered dietician. There, she met her husband of 58 years, John E. Merryman II. The young couple married on December 28, 1962, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Jack attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and graduated in 1966. Marcia worked at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and had three sons, John Ezra, Charles Everett, and Robert Evan. After medical school, the family grew. Cheryl Leigh was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where Jack served two years in the army as a surgeon. Jack then began his orthopedic residency at Georgia Baptist Hospital after they moved to Decatur, Georgia.
Marcia built a home full of love and activities. She supported her children as they pursued their interests in academics, sports, and the arts. She encouraged and cheered them on in whatever they were interested in. She worked with Jack to build a thriving Orthopedic Practice in Riverdale, Georgia, where they spent their next 50 years. She was the bookkeeper and builder of relationships, which is a testament to her dedication to her husband and family. Marcia was a prolific gardener. She turned the blank canvas of her backyard into a magnificent art piece full of color, beautiful foliage, babbling brooks, and, because they were in Georgia, vibrant Azaleas. Marcia's creativity did not stop at the edge of the backyard but also extended to the sewing room, where she made beautiful, hand-crafted items that she lovingly gave to her family and friends. A favorite memory was sharing her love for ceramics with Cherri and friends when they would clean and paint their creations. There wasn't a craft Marcia didn't enjoy.
Gradually, as she got older and her children began their own lives, Marcia spent some time traveling to see them, but she preferred the peace and quiet of her home in Riverdale, Georgia. After Jack's death in October 2020, Marcia bravely decided to leave her beloved home and move near her oldest son, John, and wife, Kathy. Marcia would spend her final years fighting diligently against the wrath of dementia. She passed quietly on May 28, 2025, in Cincinnati. Marcia was loved by her family and friends. Her fierce independence, warm wit, and infectious laughter will be missed. The family will have a graveside burial in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. The Service will be held on July 12 at 10:00 am at the Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
