Joseph E. Schuster

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Joseph Schuster, a beloved husband, father, uncle, brother and friend, who peacefully passed on May 21, 2025.

Joe graduated from LaSalle High School in 1983 and earned his associate’s degree in Audio/Video Communications from Southern Ohio College.

He was a visionary creative, someone who saw beauty and possibility in everything. He learned photography from his friend Mary Dee, forever after envisioning the world around him with the eye of an artist. This helped inform his work as a producer, copywriter and videographer, earning him 2 Telly Awards. Joe was also a music reviewer for Cincinnati’s alternative weekly publication Everybody’s News and he later contributed photography to Tiki Magazine.

Joe was deeply passionate – and at times obsessive - about music. Blues and R&B were his favorites. While working for Time Warner Cable, Joe ran camera and worked the annual Harvest Home Parade and Taste of Blue Ash events. His work brought him the good fortune to meet some of his musical heroes, including Wilson Pickett and Al Green.

Throughout his life Joe enjoyed so many things including spicy food – particularly Mexican and Indian cuisine. He had a particular fondness for Reese’s Cups and chocolate ice cream. He loved cooking, putt-putt, camping, road trips, and playing the guitar and ukelele. He enjoyed sitting around with friends and family and telling stories.

Joe was a Honui Moai of the Fraternal Order of Moai (FOM), and a founding member of the Kon-Tiki Chapter of the Order.

Joe will be fondly remembered for his jovial, kind and generous nature. He was an extraordinarily loving husband, father, uncle and brother, and a good friend to many. Joe lived a full and meaningful life. Though we mourn his passing, we are thankful for the years we shared, and his love and laughter that will never truly leave us.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Schuster. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Julie (McCoy) Schuster of Cincinnati, his son Michael of Cincinnati, and his sister Mary (Schuster) Jackson, along with many family members and dear friends. A sincere and profound thank you to the Hospice of Southwest Ohio for the comfort and support they provided.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (https://www.lbda.org/donate/ ).
