John S. O'Connell

John passed away on May 1, 2024 at the age of 90.   He was the second of two children born to James E. & Mertie May O’Connell.  A westside Cincinnatian from birth and through the majority of his life, he graduated from Elder High School and the University of Cincinnati.  John was in the footwear industry throughout his career and a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan, who never missed a good party. 

 John is proceeded in death by his father James E. O’Connell and his mother Merti May O’Connell.   He is survived by his brother (Jim), wife of 69 years (Marti Jo), children John Jr. (Lori), Tim (Jackie), and Laura (Larry), his grandchildren Nick Berndsen (Taylor Tate), Cassandra O’Connell, Lacey O’Connell, Jack O’Connell, Brennan O’Connell and his great-grandchild Callie Berndsen.    

 There will be a visitation at Radel Funeral Home 650 Neeb Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45233 on Monday May 6, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.  A Christian burial at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church 4026 River Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45204 will take place on Tuesday May 7, 2024 at 10:30am.  

  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund.
