Monahan, John "Jack" born November 8, 1930. Preceded in death by his wife Dorothea (Dot) Monahan (nee Heitker), Parents, Frank and Margaret Monahan (nee Walsh) and his brothers Eugene, William, and Joseph Monahan. He is survived by his sister Ruth Rieder, sister Kathy Handley, his children, Barb (Don) Haas, Mike (Kim) Monahan, Carol (Bob) Westerkamp, Tim (Rebecca) Monahan. Loving grandpa to the late Stephen Haas, Douglas (Sarah) Haas, Timothy (Megan) Haas, Jonathan (Elyse) Monahan, Jaime (Jason) Martin, Jason (Bethany) Monahan, Katelyn (Bret) Marshall, Kelly (William) Eisenhauer, Danielle Monahan, Matthew Monahan, James (Rachel)Fox, Matthew Fox, and Nickolas Fox. Great Grandpa to Stephen Haas, Samuel Haas, Claire Monahan, Kyla Monahan, Wyatt Martin, Cora Martin, Landon Martin, Molly Martin and Ada Monahan.
Jack was a devoted husband to his wife Dot and loved his family and God. Jack had a passion for the outdoors and the annual eagle trips to the Land Between the Lakes. Jack was also an avid golfer.
Jack was a renowned storyteller and known for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. His children and grandchildren loved to gather around Grandpa Jack to listen to his stories. He also loved to bake bread, fruit cakes and tea rings. He always tweaked a good recipe by adding a bit of rum or beer to add a little zip to the recipe and make it his own.
Jack was a beacon of light to others no matter where he traveled, El Salvador, Church gatherings, the retirement center at Western Hills and Bayley Place and in his everyday life. Jack greeted people with love and friendship throughout his life.
Jack graduated from Western Hills High School and received an honorary degree from Elder High School, class of 49. Jack served our country in the Army during the Korean war, serving most of his time in the service in Germany. He spoke highly of his years in the service and enjoyed seeing some sights while overseas.
Jack worked for 60+ years for the Cincinnati Enquirer. He also worked for GE, Tedford Crystal, and Gibson Greeting Cards.
Passed away on May 18, 2022 at the age of 91. Visitation on Friday, June 3, 2022, from Noon - 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 10010 Carolina Trace Rd, Harrison Oh, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 1:00 pm.
