Helena Lynn Caruso, age 91, of Cincinnati, OH, died peacefully on Friday morning, June 13, 2025. She was born on August 1, 1933, to Ernest (Germany) and Dora (née Johansen/Denmark) Wiedemann and sister of the late Ernest H. Wiedemann of Dayton, OH.
Helena was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, James J. Caruso, her son Kevin J. Caruso, her daughter-in-law Lisa Caruso (Formosa).
While attending Seton High School she met James Caruso of Elder High School and quickly became high school sweethearts. They were married in August 1953, soon after they moved to Washington DC where Jim served with the 3rd U.S. Infantry (known as the Old Guard).
While raising her family, Helena found joy in roller skating, modeling, and teaching physical education. Her energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and she brought grace and strength to everything she did, whether gliding across a rink, striking a pose, or inspiring students to stay active and healthy.
She enjoyed the Arts and was a volunteer and supporter at the Artis-Naples (home of The Baker Museum & Naples Philharmonic). She also volunteered for the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (NPYO) for 21 years. Helena was a Hospice volunteer in Cincinnati and Naples FL for more than 25 years. More than anything, she was resolute towards her family of five children, nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and loved spending time with all of them.
Helena was a member of Bible Chapel of Delhi Hills.
Helena loved her time with family, especially being a part of family trips to the mountains in Ketchum, ID. She would comment on how magnificent God’s handywork was.
Helena was an avid fan of Figure Skating. She has attended countless national and international competitions during the past 50 years. She would say “figure skating blends athleticism and strength of sport with the grace and precision of dance.”
Helena is survived by her daughter, Karen A. Caruso; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael R. Caruso (Joan), Steven J. Caruso (Pat), James S. Caruso (Katie); grandchildren (spouse), ((great grandchildren)), (((gg grandchild))) – David (Meg), ((Lily, Max, Lia)); Maria, ((Colette, Lucas)); Nicole (David), ((Alexander, Nicolas, Andrew, Audrey, Elena)); Melissa (Jamiel), ((Madison, Sydney, Savannah)); James, ((Cameron)), Christina (Mark), ((Caius)); Tim (Melissa), ((Kylee, Jaycee)), (((Milani))); Stephanie; Nick.
Helena’s legacy of faith and love of family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
