Catherine Marie Gutzwiller

Catherine "Cathie" Marie Gutzwiller, 64, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Cathie was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She shared 46 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Doug, building a lifetime of memories rooted in love, friendship, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Together, they created a home filled with kindness, support, and the strong foundation of a partnership that was admired by all who knew them. Doug was her constant companion, and their love for one another remained a guiding force throughout their life together.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Doug; her mother, Joan Merk; her mother-in-law, Rose Marie Gutzwiller; her children, Bryan (Angela) Gutzwiller, Kevin (Lisa) Gutzwiller, Kelly Gutzwiller, and Kate (Aaron) Rose; and her six cherished grandchildren, Brady, Riley, Colin, Michael, Maggie, and Max, who brought endless joy and pride to her life. She is also survived by her sister, Carol (Rick) Keegan; her brother, Jim (Angela) Merk; her sisters-in-law, Anne (Rick) Williams, Judy Papania-Martin (Jack Martin), and Beth (Duane) Stacklin; her brothers-in-law, Greg (Donna) Gutzwiller and Jay (Rosalinda) Gutzwiller; her niece, Jennifer McKenzie; her nephew, Michael (Angel) Arnold; her cousins, Mike (Renae) Selcer, Steve (Beth) Selcer, Pat and the late Belinda Selcer, Connie (Don) Doersam, and Kevin (Carrie) Selcer; her uncle, Richard and the late Merryl Selcer; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Merk, and her father-in-law, Jerome Gutzwiller.

Cathie dedicated many years of her career as an ophthalmic assistant at Midwest Eye Center, where she brought compassion, professionalism, and a caring touch to the patients and colleagues she served. Her ability to make others feel comfortable and cared for extended beyond her home and into her workplace, where she made a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know and work with her.

Cathie found great happiness in the simple joys of life, especially spending time in her pool and enjoying long, relaxing days at the beach. Some of her most treasured memories were made in the water with her children and grandchildren, laughing, swimming, playing, and soaking up the moments together. Cathie loved sitting on the back deck with Doug almost every night, sipping on an ice-cold beverage while getting lost in long conversations.

Above all else, Cathie’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She had a fierce and unwavering devotion to her children and grandchildren, always standing beside them, cheering them on, and making sure they knew how deeply they were loved. Her love was protective, constant, and unconditional; a love that showed up in every milestone, every challenge, and every ordinary moment in between.
