Carol Lee Messerle

Our beloved mom and “Memaw,” Carol Messerle (née Croom), passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family during the extra innings of a Cincinnati Reds game. She was born on November 8, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, to Carlisle and Grace Croom, and lived a life centered on love, service, and adventure.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard E. Messerle; her son, David (Tracy); her sister, Jane; and her brother, Sonny. She faithfully cared for her husband and son throughout their illnesses with deep compassion and strength.

She is survived by her children: Richard (Donna) Messerle, Chuck Messerle, and Tricia (Eric) Bowling; grandchildren: Keith (Lauren) Messerle, Rachel (Ryan) Messerle, Caroline Bowling, and Will Bowling; and great-grandchildren: Iggy Messerle Bennett, Margot Messerle, and Rosie Messerle Bennett. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Bob) Crockett, sister-in-law, Guiomar Messerle, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her home was always a gathering place filled with laughter, stories, and favorite dishes like her lasagna, macaroni salad, and butter cookies. Carol loved the simple pleasures of life, such as sharing meals with family and friends. Her love of travel carried her across the United States and to many corners of the world, each journey adding to memories she treasured and joyfully shared.

Deeply committed to her faith, Carol volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Church Lector, and Eucharistic Minister at her beloved St. William Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The St. William Building Fund, 4108 W. 8th St, Cincinnati, OH 45205. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025 at 10 am at St. William Church, 4108 W. 8th St, Cincinnati, OH 45205 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.

Carol will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
