Rounding third and heading for home…. Our wonderful and dear mom, an ardent Cincinnati Reds fan to the end, peacefully passed away surrounded by love on September 13, 2025 after a full and beautiful 89 years of life. Ann Catherine was born to Charlie and Marcella (Siminger) Sims on July 28, 1936 in Cincinnati, OH.
A proud graduate of Seton High School and Mount St. Joseph University, where she earned a nursing degree and played on the tennis team! Ann would meet the love of her life, Bob, while visiting Indian Lake with her “club” girlfriends and Bob with his college fraternity brothers one magical summer in 1956. They would marry in 1959, moving to Toledo, OH for Bob’s career in the toy industry, and then on to Indianapolis, IN before returning to Cincinnati’s east side. Always one to host lively parties, life was a thrill for Ann, and she lived it enthusiastically, whether traveling with family and friends or as she always said: “enjoying your own company.” Ann — known for her upbeat and positive outlook — continuously kept family, friends and faith as the center of her life.
Ann’s nursing career spanned from hospital work when first married, to an eventual return to the profession after raising five children, to Hospice of Cincinnati, where she cared for patients and their families in such a gentle way. After in-patient and home care positions for HOC, Ann worked in their admissions office and then started the holistic healing touch program there before her eventual retirement. Mom’s strong Catholic faith and deep compassion for others guided her in this special role, earning her nickname as Saint Ann!
Heading for home also means Mom is now happily reunited with our dad, her beloved Bob, her husband of 52 years who preceded her in death in 2011, in addition to her parents, in-laws and cousins. We’re sure she’s also enjoying unlimited chocolate treats and a glass of Chardonnay or a manhattan with dad, now that she’s home in Heaven.
Ann is survived by her brother Bill of Glenwood Springs, CO and his wife, Martha. Ann is also survived by her five children: John (Kristen), Bill (Jody), Jayne (Gary), Jennifer and Susan (Greg) and 13 grandchildren: David (Britta), Steven, Scott (Liesel) and Jenna (Nathan); Megan (Kyle), Lindsey (Alex) and Kelly (Michael); Abby and Adam (Kellie); Molly, Natalie and Kim; and Charlie, along with nine great-grandchildren. In addition, Ann is also survived by numerous treasured nieces, nephews and their spouses, as well as many lifelong friends.
While Mom’s love and humor will be greatly missed, her positive impact will carry on in the many lives she has touched over the years. We truly cherish all of the amazing and sweet memories!
A receiving time will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Ann’s life at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at St. William Church 4108 W. 8th Street 45205. If you wish, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Cincinnati P.O. Box 633597 Cincinnati, OH 45263-3597 or online at hospiceofcincinnati.org.
