Mary Jo Hamant

Mary Jo (Nee: Beam) Hamant peacefully left us on Sunday, March 19, 2023, just two weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

Mary Jo was born to the late Frank and Gertrude Beam on April 3, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended grade school at Holy Cross School and graduated from Immaculata Commercial High School. She was an executive secretary for Shillito’s Department Store before she married Irvin H. Hamant on November 7, 1959, at Holy Cross Church in Mt. Adams. Over the course of the next seven years, they grew their family with the addition of five boys. She was the ultimate wife, mother, homemaker, and notorious coupon clipper.

Mary Jo and Irv were avid dancers and frequented many dance halls throughout the city, often seen dancing the jitterbug or circling the floor to a polka. In retirement, they spent their winters in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and traveled the world in the other seasons, visiting twenty-two countries together. Mary Jo also cherished the trip to her homeland of Ireland, with her Mother, sisters and sister-in-law.

She is survived by her loving sons, John, Jim (Barbara), Larry, Mark (Jennifer), and Joe Hamant; grandchildren, Mark, Josh, Jack, and Kyra Hamant; sisters, Connie Anderson and Debbie Beam; sisters-in-law, Audrey Wissmann and Mary Jo Hamant and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was predeceased by her loving husband, Irv, and brother, William “Butch” Beam.

She lived her life prioritizing faith, family, and friends. She will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, beautiful smile, and spirited personality.

Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Church with Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:30 AM. Remembrances may be made to St Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee or Hospice of Cincinnati. www.radelfuneral.com
