Floyd R. Mcmurray

Floyd “Butch” McMurray, age 77, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died peacefully on January 3, 2023 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Floyd was born on May 31, 1945 to Floyd “Hap” and Irene McMurray (nee Roth) in Cincinnati. He grew up in Riverside. After graduating from Elder High School in 1963, Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1963 to 1967. After proudly serving our country as an intercept operator stationed first in Turkey and then South Dakota he left the force and settled back home in Cincinnati.

In 1959, Floyd delivered newspapers in Sedamsville. During one of those deliveries he met a beautiful girl who would become his wife. Floyd and Janet (nee Gaynor) wed in 1966, going on to have three daughters: Melissa Feeney (Mike), Amy Burger (Steve) and Erin Smith (Todd), all of Cincinnati, Ohio. He leaves behind his four sisters: Donna Ledford (Ernest), Eileen Bader (Steve), Pam Braunstein (Mark) and Sharon Clyde (Richard) and his honorary little brother Steve Staat (Linda). In addition, Floyd has 7 beloved grandchildren: Kaitlyn Stepien (Chris), Samuel Feeney, David McMurray, Olivia Burger, Jacob Feeney, Madelyn Feeney and Owen Burger and a host of devoted in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force Floyd found work at Pure Oil Company which eventually became UNOCAL and finally Peter Cremer North America. He worked as an inventory control specialist and then supervisor of supply and distribution for 30 years. Not quite ready for full retirement he continued on to Wuest Electric for an additional 12 years.

Following his retirement he cultivated a deep passion for golf which led him to work at Neumann Golf Course as a ranger and starter. Floyd loved the game and you could find him on the course any day when the temperature was over 40 degrees. He proudly proclaimed this past year that he shot his age, an impressive 77. He was very close to many of his coworkers and happily called them friends.

He was both a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Christopher Council, and at the time of his passing he was a Fourth Degree member of Most Holy Rosary ASM 2170. Floyd was devoted to the Knights of Columbus and spent many years proudly serving the community. Fellow members became his lifelong friends.
