Doris Jackson

Doris Jackson (Nee King) of Barthel, KY passed away on November 17th at her home in Cincinnati, OH. She is preceded in death by her parents Austin and Bernice King, and her brother Sam King. Doris is survived by her brother Bill (Pat) King and sister Brenda (David) Lobaugh. She was the loving mother of 3 children, Terri (Tim) Howard, Tina (Gary) Mills, and Trena (Kevin) Schmidt. Doris is also survived by her grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Stevens, Melissa (Nick) Little, Christopher (Krista) Howard, Summer (David) Kendrick, Gary (Taylor) Mills, Xander, Savannah & Harper Schmidt along with 10 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Doris was born in the coal mining town of Barthel Kentucky in December of 1941. Her family later moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she met and married Neal Jackson. After their divorce in 1979, Doris moved with her mother Bernice and her youngest daughter Trena to Avondale, Arizona where she attended college to become an LPN. In Arizona Doris took up many hobbies such as traveling, singing in church, and volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol. After her mother passed away, and her daughter moved back to Ohio, she spent several more years in Arizona near her brother but decided to return to Ohio to be with the rest of her family.

Doris was an avid quilter. She poured her heart and soul into every stitch that she made. Quilting was her legacy and she made sure that everyone in her family had a piece of that legacy in a quilt she made especially for them. When not quilting, Doris would spend hours in front of the computer researching her family genealogy. She would get so excited, when she discovered a new family member and loved discovering new information about where she came from, she even wrote a book about her family history to share with future generations. Doris’ biggest treasure was her family. She loved getting together with her family to share a meal and our personal favorite was her enchiladas. She was very proud of her girls and the women they became and her heart overflowed with pride and joy when talking about her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family knows she was welcomed into heaven with open arms because Doris knew that “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23.) and that “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16). Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. (Romans 10:9-10). Doris was saved by God’s amazing grace through faith. Doris had a lot of faith, so this is not goodbye forever, just until we meet again.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 28th, 2022, from 5:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm at Radel Funeral Home, 650 Neeb Road, Cincinnati, OH 45233.
